Question:
Do you know of any good musicals?

I have been to see Cats and Mumma Mia and I thought they are both really good. I have seen adverts for others up at tube stations but I don't know if they are any good. Are there any places I can look for honest reviews or can anyone give me a serious pointer as to a good musical in London to see?

Last year i watched phantom of the opera at london, it was so good it made me cry, even though i already knew the story. The special effects were amazing too.

(Have seen cats too, fantastic costumes!)

Wow! London has so many great musicals that it is hard to pick. I think Spamalot should be lots of fun. Chicago, Dirty Dancing, Cabaret, The Producers, Mary Poppins. A lot of good music. Check out the London website

In the index is a section called Reviews. You can see what people are saying about the scene. Have fun! Wish I were there.

well definitely phantom of the opera if you haven't seen it already. here's a list of shows that i know are playing in New York, so chances are they're probably in London too. WICKED, Barnum (which i think is having a revival), A Chorus Line, Chicago, Cabaret, The Lion King (this is actually really good), Spamalot (which might only be USA), Annie Get Your Gun, and a whole bunch of other classics.

If you have time to see more than one show go to one that isn't very popular, you might end up loving it! If you only have time for one though stick with the classics...

Good luck finding a show and have fun!

When I was in London in 1998-89 I saw some fabulous shows including Phantom..., Les Miz, Chess, Cats and Blood Brothers. Some of these are still playing. There are also some such as The Producers playing. Go to theatrecentral.com check out what they have to say. Then go to Leicester Square they have cheap tickets there .... well they used to.

Have a look at whatsonstage.com for a complete list of what's on...it also has reviews by the general public for each show. The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most magical things to see on stage. I saw "Wicked" this week and really enjoyed it, the sets, costumes and the singing are great and it certainly makes you look at the Wizard of Oz in a new light.

Gosh there is so many, and all at a good professional level. Chicago is great and The Producers is very funny but you have to go in with a open mind and just take it for entertainment.

"Les Miserables" in London was FANTASTIC!!! "Chess" was good, "Cabaret" is a classic, and I also enjoyed "An Italian Straw Hat". I didn't see "Starlight Express", but heard it was fun too.
