i want to audition for the school play. it says that you need to prepare a song and bring the sheet music with you. i'm not really sure what it means by sheet music? would i be expected to play the song on the piano/guitar as well? what is sheet music!?

also, any suggestions for songs to sing? i can sing normal pitch and low notes but not very high notes.

WHY do you people ask these qeustions on here and then you DON'T GIVE ANY INFORMATION?l... like ARE YOU A MALE OR A FEMALE? since you are so PARANOID that you have your information turned off and then you use an ID that is UNISEXUAL in nature... HOW do you expect an INTELLIGENT ANSWER? Since you OBVIOUSLY seem to think all songs are th same and since you don't know what sheet music is and you have no idea what your RANGE IS (normal, low and high doesn't cut it) well.. here are some songs you can use and they don't really matter what they are because YOU believe that all songs are the same.

Oh. That's great that you are auditioning! Ok so sheet music is like the accompanists notes for piano or whoever will play with you. I don't think its would be necessary to bring your own accompaniment like a guitar unless you need to be able to play guitar for the play. Sometimes they will ask you to sing without an accompaniment, like on American Idol! IF so the sheet music is basically a copy of the tune and the lyrics of the song you will use. It should be professional though, so once you find a song you can either find a free legal copy on the internet or you can buy a copy from online or at a Music Store near you!

Im sorry but since you don't have a picture i cant tell if your a girl or a guy, so

for girls:Tomorrow, andy Disney Princess song, like Whole New World or Beauty and the Beast,

Defying Gravity, Popular, Lets hear it for the boy from FOOTLOOSE, or maybe a Paramore song depending on how well you can carry a tune.

for guys:Consider Yourself from Oliver Twist,Don't Stop Believing from Journey, any guys song from anything on Broadway, or even a good Chris Brown song, I don't know I think a guy can get away with any song that isn't rap or hip hop-just because that's more of a beat and they need to hear a tune. I don't believe you can get a good idea of how well someone sings if they rap so if your into that sorry. Hope I helped!! Good Luck!!!

I once auditioned with the ABC's and got the lead role in my High School's musical (You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown). How many girls are auditioning? What role do you want to be considered for? If you want to be Sandy, sing one of Sandy's songs, if you want to be Rizo, sing "There are worse things I could do..." I was always a big for a song not in the show that still worked for the character the person was auditioning for. If you were going for Sandy, the song "There's a fine, fine line" from Ave Q would work or "I feel pretty" from West Side Story. Again, similiar characters, but songs that the director hasn't heard 100 times already. HOWEVER, you MUST feel comfortable and good about the song you're going to sing, so don't try to learn one last minute.

You need sheet music to give the piano player they will have at the audition. The piano player is there to play the rest of the music that you aren't singing, called accompaniment. You can go to a music store, or to amazon.com and buy a book of songs from musicals. My personal favorites are the Singer's Musical Theater Anthology series, and they have songs for every voice type. From your description, it seems like you are a mezzo-soprano. If you get a new edition, it comes with cd's of just the accompaniment, so you can sing along with the recording to get used to singing along with a piano. Unfortunately, with the cd's, the books are expensive, so unless you are planning on doing more auditioning I may recommend getting one without cd's, especially if you can play piano yourself. Those are only ten dollars. Just sing through the book until you find a song you really like. Maybe get a recording of the song on itunes too, so you can hear the original performer sing it.

Here is a link to Amazon.com where you can buy the book, and find links to others in the series.

Good luck with your audition. It's great that you are trying something new!
