I don't really feel comfortable with some chick shaking their *** and boobs and stripping in front of me and my boyfriend. Is it gonna be like a striptease or is it actually going to be worth my contributing money. I want to go in with an open mind but if it's going to be like seeing a stripper, I will walk out. My boyfriend has sent me info about how the two are different but I still see the similarity. This is the info he sent me. "Women and men get dressed up in extremely extravagant costumes to perform for mixed audiences in shows at an assortment of venues – from dive bars to large theaters. Most of the performers do this as a moderatly expensive hobby, for the love of it, and few performers actually make a living at it. Many acts are as much performance art as striptease, and the focus is much more on theatricality and personality than it is on body parts. While most burlesque acts involve some stripping, not all of them do, and different performers who do strip only take off as much or as little as they want to. The feeling at these shows is usually boistrous and celebratory." https://mail.bgsu.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=2238525307b04da792aafe19fd0d8748&URL=http%3a%2f%2fen.wikipedia.org%2fwiki%2fBurlesque

A burlesque show is not like a lapdancing club. I love burlesque - it's fun, retro and sexy without being sleazy. Dita von Teese is a burlesque artist. It's all about the tease - taking time to take off a glove or a stocking, for example. Using ostrich feature fans to hide diffferent body parts.

CBS News has a clip where they even talk about how it's more of a female audience http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mx0248R2XSg&feature=fvw

A burlesque show is mainly for fun and entertainment. They do strip but, if this show is anything like I have seen, you see very little of what they're peeling off and they don't strip for money. Some performers like to use those large feather fans and strip tease (I mean tease literally) behind them and show only small bit for seconds at a time as they flirt and strut the stage. Its very playful and not raunchy at all. They usually opt to wear pasties over their nipples as well and I've rarely ever heard of the performers stripping completely nude to the bottom, they usually and most traditionally keep their panties on, but that also depends of the performer. Some play musical instruments, others use paint as another form of performing. It really is a mixed bag when going to a burlesque show. I'd love to go to another show, I had nothing but great fun and a huge smile when I walked out.

It is basically a strip show, but WITHOUT the sleaze. it is sexy, but without the smutty and dirtyness that comes with it. there is no pole dancing and no perfect figures-not neccesarily anyway. they ususally have some kind of theme surrounding them and can be rather comedic. if you look on youtube at artists such as dita who are burlesque dancers then you'll see how enjoyable a burlesque show really is.

gone in with an open mind but look into it so you know what youre gettin yourself into, dont go in blind, but i think if you go and just relax youll enjoy it.

good luck x
